Obi-Wan Kenobi's Disney+ Series and what other Jedi/Sith could we see in the Series?

Updated: Oct 1, 2021

We finally have it! After what feels like years of rumors (ranging from his own movie to a cameo) Ewan McGregor will finally be re-appearing as Obi-Wan Kenobi in his own Disney+ Series. Finally Lucasfilms has confirmed that production has already begun on what is being called a 6 Episode limited series. The series is set to take place 10 years after the Revenge of the Sith and thus 7 years prior to A New Hope. To add to the excitement we also have confirmation that Hayden Christensen will be returning to play Darth Vader in the series, so it is safe to assume Mustafar won't be their last epic duel.

The Star Studded Cast

Returning alongside McGregor and Christensen, will be Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse (reprising their roles as Owen Lars and Aunt Beru). The rest of the cast will be comprised of new faces including Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie. Considering the series is a limited series, I highly doubt we would get a Season 2 but we're going to assume that some of these characters will either get their own spinoffs or show up in one of the other future Star Wars series on the horizon. Speculation as to who these characters could be playing right now is under lock and key but we do have one hint!

Moses Ingram is a rising star in the industry and her recent Instagram post she writes that she will be "playing with Lightsabers." So who could she be playing? It is possible she could be playing a younger version of Ahsoka but considering Mark Hamill's recently reprised his role as Luke Skywalker with some de-aging why wouldn't they do the same with Rosario Dawson, nevertheless Ahsoka is a Togruta and her race ages much slower than humans.

So who else could Ingram be playing that uses Lightsabers?

Well if we focus on her post writing Lightsabers in the plural sense she could be none other than playing Assajj Ventress, giving the Dathomir Witch her first live-action appearance. Considering her rising star status this would be an excellent choice as she could also make set herself up to make an appearance in the Ahsoka series as well.

Could she also be an (or a former) Inquisitor? following Order 66, Darth Vader was tasked with hunting down the remaining Jedi Masters and their Apprentices. Vader would either kill the remaining survivors he found or convince them to turn the Dark Side of the Force and work for the Empire as a Sith Inquisitor. Referenced in Star Wars Rebels as well as Jedi Fallen Order there are (as of now) 11 Sith Inquisitors. Perhaps she is tasked with taking down the Jedi that lives on Tattooine and following a duel with Obi-Wan, she realizes she cannot win and fears going back to Vader empty-handed. Obi-Wan tracks her down and begins to help her transition back to the Lightside of the Force.

Another more story driven idea is that she could just be a young Jedi who has been on the run and in trying to stay hidden following Order 66 and has been on the run from Darth Vader as he seeks to eliminate the remaining Jedi. She fleas to Tatooine, thinking she might be able to stay hidden here but this only brings Darth Vader back to his home and there he senses his former Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, thus forcing Obi-Wan to leave Tatooine in order to keep Luke safe and so that Darth Vader does not sense his child still exists. This would be the most interesting storyline as Obi-Wan would essentially have an apprentice again and would complement well with some great storytelling flashbacks.

I personally hope that she will at least be one of these characters and if she is not an Inquisitor I am hoping that one of the other cast will be (Rupert Friend looking at you) as it fits into the timeline perfectly. This series also gives promise of seeing the greatest Lightsaber duel that we have ever seen on-screen as we get a rematch between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. This series is also rumored to have flashbacks, which makes sense for Christensen to not have to wear the suit the whole time especially considering he wasn't used in Star Wars Rogue One. Another interesting thing to point out is Indira Varma is only listed for 1 Episode (at the moment) so is she perhaps playing Obi-Wan's long lost love interest Duchess Satine?

(Side note another rumor is that they could have a love child and maybe that is who Ingram could be playing). Could this be how Obi-Wan attempts to reach his former Apprentice in his final attempt to bring him back to the light by empathizing and relating what Anakin had gone through in losing Padme. Regardless this series (originally crafted to be a movie) has its sites set on becoming the most impactful Star Wars story we've seen since the original Trilogy and for good reason! Not to mention that this is an All-Star Cast, it will be exciting as to who is casted as what role in the series and what future prospects their characters will have in other Star Wars series. Let us know what your most excited to see from the series!
